(QNA) - His Excellency Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al-Hammadi met Tuesday with President of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) Prof. Paresh Joshi and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the country.
The meeting reviewed the Ministry's preparations to host the 16th International Junior Science Olympiad, which will be held in the State of Qatar in December.
In statements following the meeting, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Ms. Fawzia Abdulaziz Al-Khater said that the final report issued by the IJSO team, headed by Prof. Paresh Joshi, was reassuring and emphasized the readiness and good preparations for Qatar's hosting of this important scientific event, making the tournament, which is the first in the Arab world, distinguished by all standards in many ways, including the development of systems of testing, correction, voting, and other logistical matters.
Meanwhile, Prof. Paresh Joshi said in a press statement that the organization's delegation held many meetings with the organizing committee of the IJSO Qatar 2019, and found a remarkable progress in the in the planning and implementation aspects of the events that have been well planned, stressing that the 16th edition in Qatar will be a well-planned and excellent event.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr. Khalid Al Ali, who is chairman of the scientific committee of the International Junior Science Olympiad, said that many meetings were held between the scientific and organizing committees of Qatar Olympiad and representatives of the organization to discuss the measures and preparations related to the tournament, in addition to field visits which were conducted to the facilities where the contests will take place.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of IJSO Qatar Mr. Ali Al-Buainain said that 50% of the work of the competent committees has been completed, which confirms Qatar's full readiness to organize the tournament at the highest level.
The State of Qatar will host the 16th International Junior Science Olympiad from December 3 to 12 as the first Arab country to host the event. A total of 62 countries have announced participation in the tournament so far, making IJSO Qatar 2019 the biggest ever in the event's history.
The International Junior Science Olympiad aims to promote and reward the pursuit of excellence in scientific endeavor; and challenge, stimulate and encourage gifted students to further develop their talents in Natural Sciences.
